cope with negativity, but I cannot say I am the best student.

A workbook of ways to cope, and only recently have I really taken the words I have read to heart.

10 Ways to Cope With Negative Feelings — Arwen Version

1. Roll away from the situation (even if mentally) to collect my thoughts
2. See number one, and think before reacting
3. Practice self-control in addressing negative thoughts and feelings
5. Use deep-breathing

7. Ground myself using touch
8. FaceTime or text a friend to talk
9. Go outside and immerse myself in nature
10. Go to the gym and workout the feelings

I am a very reactive person. I try not to be, but I am as reactive as cesium is to water. I have been trying my hardest in recent months to think before reacting to a situation or emotional stimulus. It has not been an easy feat. I struggle with this. I have my whole life.

With Autism, emotional regulation is a difficult skill to master. This is one of the more challenging things to learn and implicate in life. I struggle to understand social cues and conversational flow. Some people say that I am a great conversationalist, while others say that I am choppy and all over the place. Why can’t I be both? Haha.

Reaction and restraint are two of the things I am working on this year as well. I believe that this is a continuous process and that there is no sure fire way of knowing when I have succeeded. It is a lifelong venture.
