Wow. That’s a great question. Not really. Jokes. Honestly, it is pretty simple to balance the two. I have my office in my room, and the rest of my space is reserved for other things besides writing or editing.
I like to keep my workspace entertaining but clean. In order to allow for this, I maintain a minimalistic office setting. My desk is a simple flat surface with no drawers.
A DESK WITHOUT DRAWERS?! THAT’S LIKE A DRESS WITHOUT POCKETS!
Yes, but it is a clean dress without pockets.
This is actually a little more cluttered than usual. My mainstays are:
- Cooling Mat
- Mechanical Keyboard
- DIY Wrist Rest
- Phone Stand
- Fidget Cube/ Squeezer
- Vape, Oil
- Misc. Cups for Coffee/Water
- Blue Light glasses
I start my day using the Fabulous App for habit forming. Using this app, I have been able to completely stop my 20-year-long addiction to energy drinks and soda! I have also increased my sleep and decreased my amount of stress. I actually highly recommend this app to anyone who is looking for an accountability partner/ coach/ tracker that focuses on you versus what you are doing. This app allows me to sit down each morning, afternoon, and evening to follow a routine that will enhance my day-to-day life.
While there are a lot of features in the app, my favorite parts are the “coaching series”, the “daily focus sessions”, and the “Fabulous moments”.
The app offers mood, food, and activity journaling as well as other mental health-based activities that focus on shaping one’s inner self while focusing on not just in the moment skills, but external skills as well.
Having this app and being able to utilize it in a more serious way has truly changed the way I function in life, and I highly recommend it to anyone!
Aside from using an app to habit form, I have also made it a point to write near a window or with my cats. They are great for inspiration, warming a cold lap, or just creating havoc in the office.
Anytime I need a break from work, I just shut the laptop lid and hang out with these two. As I am my own boss, I don’t have to be concerned about when I take my breaks, how long they are, and who is congregating near the water cooler. I can work in my underwear or no-where. I can eat and drink when I please. I can sit as much as I want, and jitter as much as I please. There are no constraints unlike traditional employment.
This prompt is asking how I separate the two. TL;DR: It is as easy as flipping a light switch.
